Choosing a Burmese cat for breeding ensures unmatched beauty and uniqueness
Looking for a friend? Consider a Burmese cat. This beautiful creature will win your heart, even if you prefer dogs, thanks to its open, independent nature, energy, remarkable intelligence, and wisdom.
The breed began centuries ago in Burma (now Myanmar). The inhabitants valued these animals, letting them live in temples, where monks provided good care. According to legend, the Burmese cat accompanied the soul of a deceased owner to the afterlife, ensuring peace. Another belief was that the pet brought happiness and wealth to its owners. This breed was predominantly owned by aristocrats.
When the breed arrived in Europe at the end of the 19th century, it was called the “black Siamese,” but by 1934 the first standard was established. Since then, the breed has been winning people’s hearts.
For many years, we have searched and tried to collect all possible colors of this breed in many countries around the world. Currently, the “Via Emilia” cattery has 9 different colors of Burmese cats, which undoubtedly makes us the leading cattery engaged in the breeding of Burmese cats in Europe and the post-Soviet space.
All our pets have been tested for diseases such as gangliosidosis, craniofacial dysplasia, hypokalemia, and venereal diseases. They come with corresponding health certificates, ensuring that you will receive a 100% healthy kitten both physically and genetically.
To avoid the introduction of infections and viruses from the outside and to maintain the health of our offspring, visits to our cattery are completely excluded during the birth and rearing of kittens.
Our cattery offers a wide variety of Burmese cat colors, allowing you to choose any kitten from the existing color palette of this breed.
Our beloved kittens are sold at the age of four months, raised on their mother’s milk and only natural products, with a developed immune system.
By the time they are ready to move, they have all the necessary vaccinations and documents, and are prepared to travel to any country in the world.
The price of a Burmese kitten depends on the purpose of acquisition. If you plan to buy a pet for further breeding, the price will be significantly higher than for a “pet,” as in this case, you will also receive breeding rights, which will allow you to register litters and obtain pedigrees in the future. When acquiring a Burmese kitten as a “pet,” the cost will be substantially lower, and the kittens are handed over to their new owners already spayed or neutered, with a full set of vaccinations, a pedigree, an international veterinary passport, microchipped, and trained to use the litter box and scratching post.
We also offer mating services for Burmese cats. For this, you need to provide a certificate of the absence of venereal diseases for your pet, which must be no older than 10 days from the date of examination.
The Burmese cat has ancient origins. In ancient times, animals with similar descriptions lived in the temples and wealthy families of Bangkok. The local museum houses about 20 artworks depicting these cats, dating from the 14th to the 18th centuries.
It’s no surprise that Burmese cats are of particular interest to geneticists, as they were known before Siamese cats. The breed is used to create hybrids; for example, Tonkinese cats are the result of crossing Burmese with Siamese, and Bombay cats with American Shorthairs. The breed is actively used for developing new varieties due to its good genetics.
The standard describes the characteristics of the Burmese cat and its appearance. The ideal specimen that breeders strive for includes:
The description of the Burmese cat breed lists 10 official colors:
The coat color is uneven, being slightly lighter on the lower part of the body. A kitten can be born light, with the coat developing its main color as it grows.
Before delving into the description of the Burmese cat, you should look at photos. This is a medium-sized animal with a sturdy skeleton and well-developed muscles. For its size, it has an unexpectedly heavy weight. Along with its round face, unusual eyes, and intelligent expression, it makes an unforgettable sight.
The breed is indeed unique. Perfect poise, strong muscles, lively and spontaneous nature, and no signs of weakness or apathy.
If you carefully study the breed description, Burmese cats stand out from other cats with their unique colors. These are caused by a specific gene that lightens the primary color. Thus, a sable cat is actually the color of dark chocolate or redwood, and the chocolate color resembles the shade of coffee with milk.
Drawbacks in the description of the Burmese breed include both individual physical characteristics and disqualifying traits. Noticeable stripes on the legs, a narrow and long muzzle reducing the roundness of the head, and green eyes are considered disadvantages.
Cats with spots, incorrect nose tip color, and paw pad color are not allowed to participate in shows. Any cats with colors different from the 10 official ones are also disqualified. Physical deformities include a kinked tail, bite anomalies, and a crooked jaw.
