Tortoiseshell Burmese Cat
Initially, the recognized colors for Burmese cats were sable, champagne, chocolate, and blue. Later, other colors, including tortoiseshell, were added to the standard.
The tortoiseshell color in Burmese cats is diverse and unique. It is a combination of the primary color with evenly distributed patches on the body, tail, and legs. The tip of the nose and paw pads match the primary shade but may have spots.
Notably, tortoiseshell Burmese cats have significant genetic potential for producing various colors even within a single litter.
Important: The presence of completely white patches and patterns in the fur is unacceptable and can lead to the animal’s disqualification. The so-called “flashes” – bright streaks of red and cream – are considered a true adornment of the breed.
Color Varieties
There are four variations of the tortoiseshell Burmese cat:
Brown Tortoiseshell: Features beautiful blends of black, red, and cream patches of various sizes. The nose and paw pads are dark brown with a pinkish hue or a combination of both colors. This color is the most contrasting, with vivid, sometimes whimsical markings.
Chocolate Tortoiseshell: The coat is light brown with reddish and cream flashes. The nose and paw pads are a few shades darker than the fur. The eyes are expressive and yellow.
Blue Tortoiseshell: Characterized by a tin base tone with light blue and cream highlights. It looks strict, mysterious, and noble. The color transitions are smooth. As with other subtypes, the eyes are amber or yellow.
Lilac Tortoiseshell: The coat is a delicate platinum shade with light cream markings. The tip of the nose ranges from pink to lavender with a few spots. This unusual and eye-catching color stands out.
