Blue Burmese Cat
The Burmese cat is distinguished by its unique coat color, silky fur, and expressive amber eyes. This elegant cat is valued for its exotic appearance and gentle nature.
The blue Burmese cat, in particular, has an unmatched charm. The first cat of this color was born in 1955, immediately attracting attention with its unusual light fur. This cat resulted from crossing with blue-point Siamese cats, which share similar physical characteristics with Burmese cats. Subsequently, the kitten was bred back to her father, producing kittens with smoky, steel-tinged fur. That’s how it all began…
Description of the Color
Blue Burmese cats resemble their Siamese ancestors with a similar coloration, but there are differences!
They are not exactly blue, at least not in the way you might expect. Their bodies have a distinct pewter sheen that reflects blue highlights under certain lighting conditions.
- The fur on the lower part of the body is always lighter.
- The nose tip is blue-gray.
- The paw pads are gray with a slight pinkish tint.
- The eyes range from golden to yellow, with deeper colors being more desirable.
Blue Burmese cats have short, very dense fur with various shades. The most prized shades are steely and pale, while darker shades are considered less desirable.
To meet the breed standard, the coat color of a blue Burmese cat should be even with minimal darkening. Spots and markings are not allowed.
How to Distinguish Blue Burmese from Platinum Burmese
Enthusiasts of the breed often confuse blue cats with platinum ones. However, platinum-colored cats have a silvery coat. Their fur is pale, almost white at the tips.
